Here’s a little bit about us… (Available roles further below)

The Green Man, Ropsley is the area’s top-rated pub & restaurant on TripAdvisor (in fact we’re the No1 Pub in Lincolnshire too at the time of this going to print) and we strive to delight all our customers in just getting basic hospitality right!

We were local CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR 2019, we’ve won the Grantham Taste Award, we were crowned winners for the East of England Countryside Alliance Awards, we feature in the Good Beer Guide 2018 & 2019, we’ve just picked up our TripAdvisor “Certificate of Excellence” for the third year running and we now feature in The Great Food Club’s publications.

The Green Man’s dining business has (at least) quadrupled in the last 3 years and we’ve ambitious plans to grow our customer base further through stretching the boundaries and genuinely getting the basics right “first time, every time”.

We’re relentless in delivering GREAT food, GREAT beer and GREAT hospitality each and every day.

In 2019 and beyond, we’re looking to strengthen the team further, delivering exceptional customer engagement and memorable food experiences.

Full time Bar & Restaurant Supervisor…

As Bar & Restaurant Supervisor, you’ll be a “jack of all trades” putting your hand to most things, “wowing” our customers and keeping our little, old pub going full-pelt right the way through the trading day!

From shooting breakfasts to busy lunches, afternoon teas to evening dining, even humongous BBQs in the peak season, the variety of our customer base requires breadth in people skills; we need you to be familiar with our regular drinking clientele whilst also having the gravitas to host formal and corporate parties. Reporting in to the joint owners of the business, you’ll play a pivotal role in mentoring our part time staff, so we’ll expect you’ll possess some natural ability to coach and inspire others.

We like our team to enjoy a good work-life balance, so you’ll only be working around 40hrs per week, with a fair balance of day time and evening shifts. Ultimately, flexibility is key…we’re not inventing this position just to make up staff numbers...we’re increasingly busy and require an extremely flexible, confident professional that can bring some genuine high standards, added-value, notable character and a motivating energy to the team.

What you'll need...

A genuine, pleasant demeanour, taking enjoyment in engaging with a wide range of people!

To be passionate about all aspects of food and drink whilst also having the attitude to work (and play!) alongside our growing team.

A "want to work attitude" (we don't carry dead wood!) with a level of maturity that means when you’re at work, you’re at work. The Green Man is a fun environment, but we create that fun environment by being incredibly serious about what it is we do.

At least 2 years customer-facing experience in a supervisory type hospitality role (and ideally a good degree of understanding and appreciation of the back-of-house operations too) where you can bring your own learnings and apply the very best to what we do here.

We want an innovator, someone who can flex, someone who can over-deliver on expectations.

To enjoy learning. There’s oodles of bite sized training on offer from beer appreciation, wine classes and licensing obligations that are "outside the box" versus other vacant roles in the market.

To enjoy the buzz of being busy and getting stuck in. We're a small pub, but you'll need PACE and RESILIENCE to work alongside the team at our busy periods.

A good level of spoken English.

A full and clean driving licence.

What you'll get...

A working environment that will enable you to meet some extremely pleasant people… The Green Man seems to attract the most wonderous of customers and our local community and regular diners reciprocate the welcome and warmth we offer.

You’ll be offered opportunities and the autonomy that will energise you and allow you to bring your own ideas to the table.

We believe great staff deserve great rewards and we’ll pay dependent upon experience and/or all-round attitude. We offer a monthly bonus scheme, a fair & healthy share of tips and a schedule of training that includes visits to national food & drink tradeshows, brewery visits and funded qualifications (such as a personal licence, first aid and food related courses)

The Next Steps...

Don't just send us your CV; bring it in. Make sure we're the right place for you too! Contact us via this website or call us on 01476 585897 if you’ve any further questions though.

All shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal interview with some small pre-work involved in the coming weeks.

Full time Junior Sous Chef…

As our junior sous chef, you’ll be a “jack of all trades” in the kitchen ensuring we continue to “wow” customers and keep our little, old pub going full-pelt right the way through the trading day!

From shooting breakfasts to busy lunches, afternoon teas to evening dining, the role’s variety offers some genuine breadth; something very rare in most catering businesses.

Alongside our existing chef team, you’ll play a pivotal role in mentoring our apprentice chef too, so we’ll expect you’ll possess some natural ability to coach and inspire others.

We like our team to enjoy a good work-life balance so you’ll only be working a 35hr week, with a rotating rota ensuring each chef enjoys a minimum of 3 evenings off each week and full weekends off in every three!. Ultimately, flexibility is key…we’re not inventing this position just to make up staff numbers...we’re increasingly busy and require an extremely flexible, confident professional that can bring some genuine value, character and energy to the team.
