Here’s a little bit about us… (Available roles further below)

The Green Man, Ropsley is the area’s top-rated pub & restaurant on TripAdvisor (in fact we’re the No1 Pub in Lincolnshire too at the time of this going to print) and we strive to delight all our customers in just getting basic hospitality right!

We were local CAMRA PUB OF THE YEAR 2019, we’ve won the Grantham Taste Award, we were crowned winners for the East of England Countryside Alliance Awards, we feature in the Good Beer Guide 2018, 2019, 2020 and we’ve just picked up our TripAdvisor “Certificate of Excellence” for the third year running and we now feature in The Great Food Club’s publications.

The Green Man’s dining business has (at least) quadrupled in the last 3 years and we’ve ambitious plans to grow our customer base further through stretching the boundaries and genuinely getting the basics right “first time, every time”.

We’re relentless in delivering GREAT food, GREAT beer and GREAT hospitality each and every day.

In 2019 and beyond, we’re looking to strengthen the team further, delivering exceptional customer engagement and memorable food experiences.

part time Chef…

As a chef at The Green Man, you’ll be a “jack of all trades”, ensuring we continue to “wow” customers and keep our little, old pub going full-pelt right the way through the trading day!

From shooting breakfasts to busy lunches, afternoon teas to evening dining, the role’s variety offers some genuine breadth; something very rare in most catering businesses.

We like our team to enjoy a good work-life balance and the part time position means you’ll only be working around 20hrs/week, with a rota built around some consistency for you and the existing team. The role comprises day time and evening shifts as well as an expectation to work most (but not all!) weekends. Ultimately, flexibility is key…we’re not inventing this position just to make up staff numbers...we’re increasingly busy and require an extremely flexible, confident professional that can bring some genuine value, character and energy to the team.

What you'll need...

A genuine, pleasant demeanour, taking enjoyment in engaging with a wide range of people!

To be passionate about all aspects of food and drink whilst also having the attitude to work (and play!) alongside our growing team.

A "want to work attitude". We don't carry dead wood!

At least 2 years kitchen experience (and ideally a good degree of understanding of the front of house operations too) where you can bring your own learnings and apply the very best to what we do here. Even better if you’ve experience of rosette teams or of dining venues that exude consistency and top-end, quality delivery of food.

We want an innovator, someone who can flex, someone who can over-deliver on expectations.

To enjoy learning. There’s oodles of bite sized training on offer from beer appreciation, wine classes and licensing obligations that are "outside the box" versus your typical chef role.

To enjoy the buzz of being busy and getting stuck in. We're a small pub, but you'll need PACE and RESILIENCE to work alongside us at our busy periods.

High standards of cleanliness and food hygiene awareness (we have a 5 star rating from the local authority and want to be the cleanest & safest kitchen in the county too!).

A good level of spoken English.

A full and clean driving licence.

What you'll get...

A refreshingly different work experience with a menu that will expose you to a whole spectrum of cuisines.

A working environment that will enable you to meet some extremely pleasant people… The Green Man seems to attract the most wonderful of customers, where our local community and regular diners reciprocate the welcome and warmth we offer.

You’ll be offered opportunities and the autonomy that will energise you and allow you to bring your own ideas to the table.

We believe great staff deserve great rewards and we’ll pay dependent upon experience and/or all-round attitude. We offer a monthly bonus scheme, a healthy share of tips and a schedule of training that includes visits to national food & drink tradeshows, brewery visits and funded qualifications (such as a personal licence, first aid and food specialism courses)

The Next Steps...

Don't just send us your CV; bring it in. Make sure we're the right place for you too!

All shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal interview with some small pre-work involved in the coming weeks.
